These terms and conditions may be altered or updated without prior notice. Last updated 11/07/2007 

1) Rights of Usage for Subscribers

  • You may access your account immediately after you have completed registration.
  • You can expect 6 bi-monthly issues of the magazine delivered straight to your account. 
  • You will be expected to obey the law, including copyright regulations and any codes of conduct Red Raven Publications provides.
  • You will be expected to keep your password and account details secret.
  • And inform Red Raven Publications of any security breaches that you become aware of in relation to the service and website Red Raven Publications provides.
  • You may only possess a single copy of the pdf file for each issue at any one time and you may print off pages from an issue for personal use, however, you may not create multiple copies of the pdf or print off multiple copies of pages from the magazine for the purpose of distribution or reselling. An exception to this rule are schools where teachers may print off material from the magazine to distribute to their pupils, on the understanding the material is for personal use in either class projects, lessons or homework.
  • You may not use this service to cause harm to Red Raven Publications in any way.
  • You may not resell or distribute copies of the magazine, Pagegangster software or any material on the website.
  • You may not interfer with the system, magazine or website in any way that would prevent other customers from accessing or using the system, magazine or website, or impair their enjoyment of the system, magazine or website.

2) Copyright
2.1 All material, whether text or pictures, published in The History Magazine or on The History Magazine website is subject to British copyright laws and cannot be reproduced, electronically or by any other means presently available or yet to be invented, without the express, written permission of the owners of Red Raven Publications or the contributor who originally supplied the material.
2.2 The Pagegangster software is licenced from Pagegangster and may not be copied or reproduced from this site, the magazine or from promotional or back issue discs, without first contacting the owners of Pagegangster and purchasing the software.
2.3 The name Red Raven Publications is copyright to the owners, as is the name The History Magazine and it is an infringement of copyright laws to use these names to sell media products.
2.4 While all efforts are made to obtain the relevant copyright for the use of pictures or text quotations used by the editor and staff at The History Magazine, Red Raven Publications is not liable if a contributor fails to obtain the relevant copyright for the work submitted to the magazine and any damages incurred due to this will be passed on to said contributor.
2.5 Red Raven Publications offers a pdf copy of each issue which subscribers are able to download on the understanding that only one copy may be retained at any one time and that this copy is to be used for personal use only, and is not to be duplicated or distributed, unless express, written permission has been obtained from the publishers.
2.6 Subscribers may print pages from the magazine, but they may not photocopy, scan or reproduce these pages in anyway, nor re-post them on the internet. Material may be printed for the personal use of the subscriber only.
2.7 Illegal copying of copyright material may result in prosecution for plagarism or a similar copyright breach and the cancellation of an account without refund.

3) Subscribers and the Subscription Service
3.1 Subscribers must provide their correct information when signing up for The History Magazine, this includes a correct email, name, address and telephone number, failure to do this may result in the termination of the user's account with no refund.
3.2 A subscription runs from the date the user subscribes and runs for 12 months.
3.3 Once they have subscribed users will receive 6 bi-monthly issues during the year. These will normally be published on a regular basis, barring any unforeseen events that may result in a temporary delay in the publishing of The History Magazine.
3.4 Customers are only entitled to a full refund during the first 2 months of their subscription, after which only partial refunds will be available and will be determined on the length of time, and number of issues the user has received before asking for a refund.
3.5 Red Raven Publications reserves the right to raise its subscription rates at anytime, though these rises will not apply to current subscribers until their account is due for renewal. Any subscription rate will follow a period of notification.
3.6 Red Raven Publications does not pass on information to third parties or advertisers and the only emails a user receives will be sent from Red Raven Publications on behalf of The History Magazine. If a user receives junk or fraudulent emails that claim to be from Red Raven Publications or that appear to have taken information from the website, they should contact the company at once.
3.7 Subscriptions are paid through Paypal, an online secure banking service. It is not necessary to sign up to a Paypal account to pay for a subscription, a subscriber may use a credit or debit card instead.
3.8 Red Raven Publications will never ask for bank details by email or over the phone.
3.9 Red Raven Publications administrative systems automatically records IP addresses to ensure the correct user is accessing an account. This is a security measure to prevent fraudulent use of customers' accounts and the IPs are not distributed and are not stored after a subscription ends.

4) Complaints and Refunds
4.1 Refunds will only be given for genuine complaints.
4.2 A genuine complaint is taken to mean that a user has either not received their 6 issues during their year's subscription due to an avoidable failure on the part of Red Raven Publications or their administrators to supply the magazine, or there has been an error in the subscription process resulting in a subscriber paying multiple times for a single subscription. However, proof must be sent to Red Raven Publications that such an error has occurred.
4.3 Red Raven Publications will not give refunds that arise from complaints caused by the interference of a third party.
4.4 Red Raven Publications will not entertain complaints that are due to a person no longer wanting the magazine. No refund is available in such a situation.
4.5 All complaints will be dealt with fairly and promptly.
4.6 Red Raven Publications reserves the right to offer consolitary arrangements other than a refund when dealing with customer complaints.

5) Promotions, Competitions and Prizes
5.1 Red Raven Publications will on occasion offer promotions (e.g. free gifts). Such promotions are of a limited time and limited stock. If the specified promotional item runs out, an alternative will be offered to the customer.
5.2 Red Raven Publications reserves the right to discontinue a promotion at any time without giving prior notice.
5.3 Promotions may be restricted to either individual subscribers, or schools, or similar public place subscribers. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the promotional item that is offered is not restricted and therefore available to them on purchasing a subscription. Red Raven Publications is not responsible if due to a customer's error they are unable to have a free gift, because it is restricted.
5.4 Competitions are open to all subscribers unless otherwise stated.
5.5 Competition entries must always include a valid email, as winners will be notified by email.
5.6 Competitions usually close on the last day of the second month of the publication of the magazine. However, Red Raven Publications may decide to carry across the competition to the next issue, or to repeat the competition later in the year.
5.7 There are no alternatives to the stated prizes and it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that the prize is suitable for them and that they are able to meet any specific criteria that the prize may involve.
5.8 No purchase necessary applies to competitions listed on the website to encourage new subscribers or that require the purchase of a product with entry. In such cases consumers can also apply by email without previous purchase.

6) Contributions
6.1 Subscribers and non-subscribers may submit material to the magazine unsolicited, but Red Raven Publications reserves the right to not publish contributed articles or pictures, without giving a reason.
6.2 Only text documents and photographs are acceptable for submission, unless other arrangements have been made with the editor of The History Magazine.
6.3 It is at the editor's discretion whether submitted material is deemed too offensive, discriminatory or simply unsuitable for publication in The History Magazine.
6.4 The editor will not enter into correspondence over rejected material.
6.5 Contributors must ensure that all copyright issues have been addressed concerning large text quotations or photographs or drawings, pictures, etc. Contributors are liable for prosecution if failure to ensure all copyright issues have been addressed results in legal proceedings against The History Magazine or Red Raven Publications.
6.6 All submitted materials remain copyrighted to the original creator of the work and reproduction permission requests from third parties must be addressed to said original creator and not Red Raven Publications.
6.7 There is no remittance for work reproduced in The History Magazine, though if a contributor is not a subscriber they will receive a free copy of the issue on disc their work appears in.

7) Advertising
7.1 Advertising is dealt with through the advertising department. Advert space is allocated on a first come, first served basis.
7.2 All advertising is welcomed, the exception being advertisements for/or of a sexual nature, or that are considered offensive or excessively violent, or that promote a product or idea that is offensive or discriminatory.
7.3 Complaints about adverts from subscribers may result in the advertisement being withdrawn from the publication. Refunds may be offered in such a situation, but any compensation offered is at the full discretion of the head of the advertising department.
7.4 Red Raven Publications is not responsible if an advertisement in The History Magazine does not generate extra custom for the advertiser or does not generate as much extra custom as they anticipated.
7.5 Red Raven Publications will usually not give estimates on advertising return, though they may give figures of their demographic market and average customer base, neither of which can be taken as a definitive figure of the return an advert may generate.
7.6 Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that any contracts they establish through advertising in the magazine are upheld and fulfilled. Red Raven Publications is not responsible for an advertiser failing to fulfil a contract.
7.7 Red Raven Publications are not reponsible if by responding to an advert in the publication a subscriber's details are passed on to third parties. Subscribers must use their own discretion as to which adverts to answer and to how much information they give to said advertiser.

8) Privacy
8.1 All details provided to Red Raven Publications by subscribers are kept confidential and are not passed on to third parties.
8.2 Part of Red Raven Publications' security measures includes the storing of IP addresses to prevent fraudulent use of accounts. These IPs are stored securely and are never passed on to third parties, once an account is deleted the IP is also deleted.
8.3 Subscribers should keep their passwords confidential at all times, Red Raven Publications are not responsible if through the fault of the subscriber a password is stolen and fraudulent access to an account is made.
8.4 Full addresses and/or phone numbers are never reproduced on the website or in the magazine, to maintain our customers privacy at all times. Email addresses are also kept confidential at all times, unless the subscriber has given permission otherwise.
8.5 Red Raven Publications may contact subscribers by email to keep them informed about events, changes or additions to this service or future services. By agreeing to these terms and conditions a subscriber confirms that they are happy to receive such emails.
