The History Magazine is a bi-monthly publication dedicated to social history. It was founded by Sophie Jackson and Trudie Jackson to publish articles on aspects of history usually over looked by other publications. Unlike other magazines we like to focus on social history rather than the politics of the past, so if you want to know what it was like to be a shepherd in Medieval Britain or how our ancestors cooked their Christmas goose, this is the place to come.
We have regular columns on historical cookery, crimes of the past, games our forebears used to play, places to visit throughout the year, and much more. There is also an events guide to the latest historical happenings throughtout the year, which readers are welcome to contribute to.
Links to the National Curriculum
An understanding of our history is vital for our children, yet online resources for children are limited and often difficult to find. After many requests from parents and teachers about reliable and safe history resources, The History Magazine creators have decided to dedicate a special section of the publication entirely to the National Curriculum, covering key stages 2, 3 and GCSE.
Not only can children find safe resources for internet research, but there are articles linked to their coursework, and games, quizzes and printable projects are included each issue to really get them interested and excited about history.
Children can also contribute their own history articles to the magazine or ask the editorial team a history question (the trickier the better!) There are also competitions to really inspire children to get into history.
Parents can subscribe their children for £12.50 or schools can sign up for £62.50 a year, ensuring all their pupils can access the magazine. Teachers can also develop lessons around the content, and the features, projects and cookery articles in the rest of the magazine are ideal for students who want to learn that bit more.
Schools can apply for a demonstration copy of the magazine and an information pack providing more details about this service.
So Much More
The History Magazine is not just for children, historians of all ages will find the articles informative, interesting and inspiring. The regular features of Events Guide, and Places to Visit, gives readers a chance to explore the past further, while our How To section and Historical Recipes provide a practical way to interact with the past. We also have light-hearted series, such as the Worst Cars feature, which takes a tongue-in-cheek look at some of the more memorable cars to grace our roads, and Daisy's Diary is a serialisation of a true nineteenth century journal.
Readers will find The History Magazine a breath of fresh air. Our team believes history should be exciting and not stuffy or dull, its not about dates, but about the people of the past and what they did, what they thought and above all how we can relate to and understand them.
If you are looking for a place where history comes alive, then you have found it. Mixing new technology with a genuine enthusiasm for the past, The History Magazine is the best place to learn, explore and discover our country's heritage.
